Sleet and Snowflake Greetings!!

In January we all enjoyed Andrea Gianchiglia's oil demonstration as she painted a handsome and very fetching dog with soulful eyes. We were informed and entertained! This month you will definitely want to come out Monday, February 28, 2011,7:30 pm, for Ed Baumlin's watercolor demo. "Right now I plan do something that involves animals, like horses or sheep using a limited palette." Ed has won many awards for his beautiful, strong watercolors-do go to his excellent website http://www.edbaumlinartist.com/ and you will see some of his fine work. Ed was President of the Hunterdon Watercolor Society and is also a member of the Garden State Watercolor Society, NJ American Artist Professional League, the New Jersey Water Color Society, Artsbridge, and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, among other organizations. Come on out and have a great evening! Hospitality volunteers for that evening are needed. Please call President Linda Arnold 908/647-3610.

Judy Hummer has volunteered to run our two month show in the spacious gallery at the Senior Wellness Center, near Bernardsville, about two minutes from Rt. 287. Thank you, Judy! There is a form at the end of the Newsletter for you to mail off for her. You may enter one work. The show will run from the end of March through the beginning of May. For more information, please phone Judy at 908/218-1786.

Vip We need a volunteer to run our Big Apple Bus Trip. We have always gone, from time immemorial, to New York City for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the American Watercolor Society Show at the Salmagundi Club. But we need a volunteer to run it this year. It's usually the last Saturday in April-so do save the date. And do phone President Linda at 908/647-3610 to volunteer. You can phone Mary Ann Vaccaro at 908-704-1685 to find out what is involved before you volunteer, if you wish. She'll give you all the info-you can do it....please!

The Bridgewater Township Exhibit continues to run. When we find out anything more about this you will be notified asap.

Farmstead Arts Exhibits You perhaps remember that our President Linda Arnold was in the inaugural exhibit of the Farmstead Arts Group. She tells us that they are looking for exhibitors. We have two email addresses for the woman in charge of exhibits: rom: juliemccarthy@optonline.net and juliem@rocketmail.com or you might call 1-347/927-8748. Farmstead Arts Activities for February include the JOHN CARLINI TRIO as well as the BETH MURPHY BOTANICALS EXHIBIT, SALE & WORKSHOP, at the Kennedy Martin Stelle Farmstead, 450 King George Road, Basking Ridge 07920. There will be an Introduction to Botanicals Workshop, Saturday, February 12, 10-11:30 AM - Free. $15 Donation to Farmstead Arts suggested. Beth Murphy will demonstrate the technique of pressing materials and will provide assistance in creating a unique botanical artwork. Attendees should bring a small paint brush. For more information about Beth Murphy Botanicals, visit www.bethmurphybotanicals.com . To register for the workshop online, visit: http://botanicalsfarmsteadarts.eventbrite.com. You may also call 347-927-8748, or send an email to farmsteadartscenter@gmail.com .

You can still phone about Trinity United Church "Artist of the Month" Series - RVAA member Kit Bebbington runs these. Please phone Kit at 732/356-3730 if you are interested in exhibiting. Also, Megyn Craine of the Dessert Plate Bakery and Cafe invites us to exhibit at their establishment in Somerville (34 East Main Street). This is where Santa's helpers make all those great cookies they handed out (at the Somerville tree lighting) to you last year! Megyn Craine has wall space where (select) RVAA artists can display their stuff. Please phone her at 908/722-9881. You can mention you heard about it from Amy Erdman of the Raritan Valley Arts Association. Recently Bob Erdman, member Amy Erdman's husband, has had an excellent photography exhibit up there. (Editor's note: do check out their delightful website www.thedessertplate.com .
