Gorgeous Spring Greetings!

A good crowd enjoyed Doris Terris' demo on Monday April 30th and surely we are all inspired to paint this great spring foliage! On May 23rd you want to come to see Russ Johnson demonstrate in watercolor. His talk/demo will be “Matching Technique to Subject in Watercolor”. Russ, a multi-award winner and creator of the New American Gallery, an online watercolor gallery, speaks," At one end of the spectrum we have wet, spontaneous, and impressionistic; at the other end we have tight, carefully drawn, and realistic". If you go to www.newamgallery.com/invitational_johnson.htm you’ll find some recent examples of Russ’ drybrush work. But you’ll want to come to the Somerset County Library, 7:30 pm, May 23rd and see this all in person!

Hospitality for May 23rd will be Sherry Engleberg. Thank you, Sherry!

President Linda Arnold needs help! She would like to get a Demonstrator Chairperson-we have phone numbers of demonstrators, and we are always looking for more. But we need someone to do the phoning and then just recall on Demo Day to remind the demonstrator. It’s really unfair that Linda should do it all-and we will need hospitality for next year's meetings. Your editor thinks a Hospitality Chair is in order so Linda doesn’t have to ask for people all the time. Please phone her at 908/647-3610 if you can help in any way! And THANK YOU.

RVAA thanks Debbie Hughes so very much for all her work on the Big Apple Bus Trip. The sixteen of us who went had an amazing time, because our little group included the 10 millionth visitor to the Met and so we were all treated to free admission, a wonderful luncheon in a special private dining hall, and our choice of one free (any price) art book. There seems to be a lot of huge big expensive art books and the meal was gourmet.

Except for thanks to Debbie and also to Linda for all the work and phone calls they had to make, the above paragraph is not true. It could have happened like the above, but we could not even run the bus trip for only sixteen people. Your editor really wishes you all would save the weekend in April that we do this. You save money and time. This is always such a cheap and easy and FUN WAY to see NY. This was the first time it had to be cancelled. But we thank Debbie and Linda; they worked so hard.

Lee Hughes, an artist whose work in oil, acrylic, and watercolor we all admire, now lives in California, but in May there will be a special exhibit of his work. Studio 7 in Bernardsville represents Lee.

This is our last Newsletter until September (Pastellist Christina DeBarry will demonstrate), but you can email or snail mail me YOUR NEWS any time and it will be saved for the September issue.

RVAA Member Lib Ryman has several art-related items forsale.
1) a really good 24" x 36" portfolio for $45
2) Graphic Display Systems panels-these sectional panels are covered with natural color muslin and there are two top panels and two bottom panels (editors’ note-much easier to carry in your car!) which equals two 37 ½" x 6' panels when put together, with base feet and clips. The display panels can be set us in a variety of configurations. You can call Lib at 908/604-9459
