Roaring Lion Greetings!
This Newsletter is being written with the accompaniment of a roaring wind, and a wind chill factor of 0 or so. Snow may come. But then, we've already had two bouts of lovely pre-spring. Winter '06-'07 has certainly treated us to a wide variety of thermal experiences! So what will Wednesday the 28th of March be like? Yes, Wednesday, for RVAA has a few surprises also. But do come, at 7:30 pm, to Room C at the Somerset County Library, for you will REALLY ENJOY watching and listening to Carl Burger. He is always informative, entertaining, and just plain great! Formerly head of the Art Dept. of Kean College, winner of many awards, and master of many media, you'll have a good time! We do not have Hospitality for this meeting yet, so please phone President Linda Arnold if you'd like to volunteer to bring refreshments. And THANK YOU very much.
Writing this on Receiving Day as I am, all your editor can say about our juried show at the Jewish Community Center is that it was already "lookin' good" as the paintings came in. Chairwoman Thelma Canty has worked hard on this and deserves a huge THANK YOU! Thanks also go to Rosemary Zangara who helped at Receiving, to our Juror/Judge Joan McKinney, and to Linda Arnold and Thelma Canty (again) for they will be bringing refreshments for the Opening Reception March11th. You may view our show until pick-up on April 11th. Bring your friends! The Jewish Community Center is right on Talamini Road in Bridgewater-approached from either 202/206 (turn at the greenhouses) or from Country Club Road.
A BIG red APPLE trip!!! Have we got your attention? Debbie Hughes in the Chairwoman once again for our FANTASTIC trip to New York City, on Saturday, April 28th. This trip is always fun-first of all, for only a $28. check made out to RVAA you have complete chauffer-type bus service (with a bathroom) to the Metropolitan Museum of Art uptown, and then to the American Watercolor Society Show at the Salmagundi Club downtown (or you can spend the whole day at the Met since the bus will return for you). Keep in mind that round trip train fare to the City is now about $20. and bus and subway fare is a couple of dollars each way, and you know you're saving $ and getting door to door service (well, you do have to go to the upper parking lot of the Somerset County Library by 8:15 am on the 28th) All that art and all that arty camaraderie, and some snacks on the way home (home about 6), for $28! Please mail to Debbie Hughes, 255 Falmouth Place, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. You can bring your significant other, your art-loving kid, your best buddies! But do come, and sign up pronto, as there are only 40 seats, all comfortable.
Do you know? that there are a good number of you who have not paid your dues yet? Please mail your dues to Doug Axmann, 16 Schoolhouse Lane, Somerville, 08876. $30. Individual, $35. Family, and $15. Student (through high school)
Two RVAA members Florence White in Bridgewater, and Gerry Goehring, in Piscataway, have been sick or brought down by continuing ailments lately. This is really hard on them, and we wish them all the best and hope for fast recoveries. This is really hard on us, too, for we miss Gerry and Florence.
