SNOW-TOPPED GREETINGS!
And have we been blessed with the gorgeous white stuff! Unbelievable!
But I'm (almost) sure we'll have travelable weather for Monday night, March 8th
at 7:30 pm at the Somerset County Library for a demo by our own bicoastal RVAA member Alka Dalal, who will be here from California to give us a special demonstration. Alka is a professional artist and has worked extensively with acrylics, watercolor, monoprint, collage and oils. She has been taking advanced training in One Stroke acrylic painting and has obtained several certifications in this technique, including clay work. She is going to demonstrate basic and advance techniques in One Stroke painting which can be used by any artist using any media in their own art work. She will also show some clay samples. Do come and enjoy something new and exciting! Judy Hummer will be doing hospitality for the meeting and we thank Judy.
February 8th we had a fun demo by Doug Axmann who started and completed a painting in acrylic and airbrush. With Doug we never suspect the outcome from his beginning; his demos have an air of mystery as he keeps us guessing about the final product, which always turns out well. Thanks, Doug! And thanks for the great refreshments from Eleanor DeMott, Linda Lam, and Rosemary Zangara.
BIG APPLE BUS TRIP Okay! This is it! Our wonderful annual trip to New York City, to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Salmagundi Club for the American Watercolor Society Exhibit (plus, you can probably fit in a most entertaining half hour at the Forbes Museum diagonally across the street from the Salmagundi). We are very fortunate to have Mary Ann Vaccaro once again organizing this trip. Saturday, April 24th is the date. It's so simple for you-8:30 am we meet at the upper parking lot for the library (i.e. Vo-Tech School)-in a comfortable bus with a rest room we are driven to the front of the Met (by 10). You can spend the whole day there if you wish, as the bus will come back for you. Or you can meet out front about 2:30 and go to the AWS Show. You are home about 6, after enjoying driving-home refreshments. All this for just $35! Or $60. for a couple! (trust your editor on this-it has taken me as long as 2 ½ hours each way to get to these places, that's 5 hours of subways, busses, and trains; this is so much easier, more comfortable, and fun) So-simply mail a check for $35. made out to RVAA to Mary Ann Vaccaro, 105 Brokaw Court, Bridgewater, NJ 08807, asap, to reserve your place for this special trip. Questions? Mary Ann is at 908/704-1685. (or email President Linda at
) Although there is an admission fee for the Met, there is not for the AWS Exhibit or the Forbes Museum. Of course you may bring your family, your friends, your significant other. We're a welcoming group!
An interesting email came to me which your editor wants to pass on... . .
